What is Apeda?

Established in 1985 through an act, APEDA or Agricultural & Processed Food Products Export Development Authority is a government organization aimed at promoting and developing the export of scheduled products. These products are specified under the APEDA act and exporters of such products are required to register under APEDA. The organization offers financial assistance, information, and guidance for the development of scheduled products. It is mandatory to obtain APEDA registration for the export promotion and development of scheduled products such as fruits, vegetables, meat, poultry products, dairy products, biscuits, confectionery, bakery products, jaggery, honey, sugar products, chocolates, cocoa products, floriculture products, pickles, papads, and chutneys, among others.

Objectives of Apeda

APEDA has been established with the objective of promoting the development and export of scheduled products. The central government has assigned various functions to this organization to achieve this goal. The central government is the controlling authority of APEDA and provides directions and rules for efficient administration of the Act. It is important to note that this Act does not provide relaxation of any other laws in force.

Documents Required for Obtaining Apeda License

  1. A copy of the Aadhaar card or voter identity card of the proprietor, partners, or director is required.
  2. A certificate of incorporation and MOA are necessary.
  3. A PAN card is mandatory.
  4. A food license is required.
  5. An import-export code issued by DGFT is necessary.
  6. A cancelled cheque is needed.
  7. The latest two months’ bank account statement is required.

When can the registration be cancelled?

The registration can be cancelled by the authority upon:
1. Furnishing false information.
2. Breach of rules by the registering authority.
3. Breach of conditions imposed in the certificate of registration.
4. Failure to export the scheduled product for 12 consecutive months.

If you produce agri-products and wish to export these products, then it is mandatory to get it registered under APEDA.

Once issued, the APEDA certificate remains valid up to 5 years.

Q4, Do one Need to File Monthly Returns under Apeda?
It is only a license permitting the export of goods. Therefore, no return is required to be filed under APEDA License.
